The Best Smell Proof Containers for Weed

The Best Smell Proof Containers:
My Top Recommended Containers For Weed

Written by: Taylor Walker | Updated: January 3rd, 2019

Often times, carrying weed on your person can be a little tricky since weed has a rather pungent smell. Weed gets the rawest deal of all illegal drugs in my opinion, it is the bulkiest, smelliest, and stays in your body the longest. The best way to prevent people smelling your stash when carrying your weed is to buy yourself a good smell proof container.

Although most people use Ziploc bags to store their weed, from my experience, the smell tends to seep through the Ziploc within an hour or so.

Smell proof containers are a great investment for any stoner who doesn't want the world to know they have a bag of weed in their pocket.

There are many different types of smell proof containers that vary in shape and size.

Picking out the best container simply depends on your personal needs. The range in size means that depending on where you plan on storing your goodies and whether you tend to take it with you on-the-go will influence which case you should buy.

The main purpose of smell proof containers is obvious, however many of them go above and beyond.

For example, some containers have been designed to protect your stash from UV exposure, while others are meant to keep your stash protected and eliminate shake so trichomes remain undisturbed. In this article, I'm going to go over all of my favorite smell proof containers and their uses.

My Favorite Smell Proof Containers

Here are my personal favorite smell proof containers that I use as my ganja garage:

Tight Vac (My Favorite Container)

The first container on the list is the Tight Vac. Our herb of choice wasn't even the intended purpose of this product, many people use it to keep dry goods clean. If it's popular with suburban moms with trail mix and upscale vendors, it must be pretty good at keeping everything locked tightly inside and fresh.

Over time the seal does get a bit worn out, as it is opened and closed likely much more frequently than intended by Tight Vac.

However, a larger Tight Vac is probably best to keep a huge stash in and take a smaller one to use on the daily. They come in a large variety of sizes, as short as 7 cm or as tall as 14.3 cm with a diameter that scales as you go bigger.

It absolutely does the trick, I think I'll bury one deep in my backyard on the off chance I can get some archaeologists stoned in 200 years. To make sure you get 100% smell proof action, keep the herbs in a plastic bag inside of the Tight Vac, no odor will escape whatsoever.

Pros

  • Smell proof
  • Air tight
  • Won't break the bank

Cons

  • Lid looses integrity after repeated usage

Stink Sack (Best Smell Proof Bag)

If you like how much more portable ziploc style bags are, Stink Sacks are the smell proof version. Basically, stink sacks are a lot like zip lock bags except they are made out of materials that keep the scent locked inside. These are best for putting in your pocket or backpack and taking around with you without having to worry about using up too much space.

Stink Sacks are ideal for anyone aiming to carry small amounts of weed at a time. They probably won’t work too well for large quantities since the zipper might bulge open, but they’re cheap, easy to use, and work great.

There are plenty of smell proof bags that I've tried over the years, including Smelly Proof bags, Zip-Zags, and a couple others that I can't remember the names of as I'm writing this. Anyways, the point is that Stick Sack's are by far the best smell proof bags I've used.

They last the longest without the seal/zip breaking and they do the best job at keeping the smell of my nugs inside the bag. Their my go-to for transporting anything more than an ounce.

Pros

  • Great alternative for zip lock bags
  • Cheap and easy to use

Cons

  • Doesn't work with large quantities

Ryot Hard SmellSafe (Hard Shell Case)

The Ryot SmellSafe is a little carrying case that can carry much more than just your weed. The Ryot SmellSafe is essentially a storage case that is paired with a smell-proof container. Its outer design doesn’t resemble the typical smell proof containers, in fact it looks like a hygiene kit or maybe even just a general utility pouch.

The Ryot SmellSafe is a much more discreet container for those who don't want anyone to be able to tell immediately the interior contents. It can easily be thrown into a bag or purse and has a bit of give to it thanks to the softer outer layer.

With the SmellSafe, the entirety of your kit can be contained within the smell proof barriers, so even your stinky pipe won't raise alarms. The Ryot SmellSafe does a great job at keeping the smell contained, make sure to zip it up completely when not in use.

Pros

  • Odor blocking technology
  • Memory style padding
  • Discreet container

Cons

  • Not overly large

Dope Turtle (Great For On-The-Go)

The Dope Turtle was first produced in Denver, Colorado. The container itself is pretty small, but is great at carrying your weed. It reminds me of the Tight Vac but the seal was designed with frequent use in mind, so it doesn't wear out as easily.

The Dope Turtle is hard shelled and offers UV protection to your bud, so marijuana quality will be maintained for quite some time.

Although it’s somewhat small, it has enough room to store quite a large amount of weed. It's a pretty sleek airtight container to boot, I tend to feel like my weed is more medicinal coming out of a Dope Turtle than any ol' sandwich bag.

Given the Dope Turtle's popularity and high quality make-up, it is somewhat high priced, but those who will make daily use of it should find it to be a sound investment.

Pros

  • Keeps weed safe
  • Air tight
  • High quality

Cons

  • Small
  • Expensive

Herb Preserve (#1 Container For Ounces)

The herb preserve is another smaller sized smell proof container that resembles a container of hair gel. The container’s was built from the ground up for the stoner on the go.

A lot of these containers are starting to all look pretty similar, I bet. What I can say about this one is that it is 95% effective for smell elimination but does tend to keep bud fresher than other alternatives on the list.

The Herb Preserve’s solid color and screw top lid work great, no doubt. They are a little cheaper than other alternatives on this list and I found my bud to stay intact very well with Herb Preserve.

Pros

  • Compact
  • Preserves marijuana nicely
  • Easy to screw on and off
  • Discreet

Cons

  • Not entirely smell proof

MedTainer (Grinder + Smell Proof Container)

The MedTainer really kicks things up a notch, they're not here to f*** about. I say this because the container is not only airtight but it is completely watertight as well.

The container is essentially a suped-up medicine bottle meant to keep your weed safe from all of the elements. Even better, the MedTainer has a grinder built in so there's no need to worry about having a container big enough to fit a grinder inside.

Even with all of these features, the MedTainer is still small enough to fit easily into your pocket. It covers all of the attributes desirable from a smell proof container and even throws in an added grinder for versatility. True innovation right here, fellas.

This is a great tool for any stoner that costs less than any of the other options on this list and it also has a built-in grinder. Making it the ideal choice for any cheap stoner reading this.

Pros

  • Air tight
  • Smell proof
  • Water proof
  • Built in grinder

Cons

  • Plastic construction

Kush Kaddie

Much like a regular caddy carries much more than just golf balls, the Kush Kaddy has enough room and padding to carry much more than just marijuana, meaning it allows you to carry delicate objects such as your pipe or vaporizer.

A lot of people underestimate just how stinky their pieces get and only work to conceal their bud, this container is great for your entire kit.

Although the Kush Kaddie is a bit bigger than most containers, it does allow you to safely store all your essentials at once. However, if you are only interested in storing your weed, you might want to pick another container, the portion made for weed and weed alone is only a very small part of the product itself. If you do need a container in which you can keep your nice glass pipe as well as some weed, the Kush Kaddie has you covered.

Pros

  • Padded cushion liner for delicate objects
  • Air tight
  • Smell proof

Cons

  • Small flower compartment

Trichome DankTank (Best Bulk Container)

Most smokers begin buying a gram or two at a time and start working their way up to quarters or half ounces. However, after that most stoners figure if they buy much more to save on weed, by the time they reach the end of their bag the weed will be dried out and not very good anymore.

The DankTank can hold a whopping five ounces, that's over a quarter pound!

This is the end-game cannabis storage container. It is durable, airtight, completely smell proof and absolutely massive. In other words, this thing will last you essentially forever.

Since the Trichome DankTank is solid black, it does a great job at hiding it's true use. If you're looking for a huge container that ticks all the boxes, here you go.

Pros

  • Smell proof
  • Durable
  • Absolutely massive

Cons

  • Not portable

Medication Bottle (Best Free Option)

You might have seen this one already as they are very easily obtainable, a good old medication bottle. Inexpensive and extremely common, they're much better than I expected at keeping the odor of strong bud locked inside.

Medication bottles already have child proof lids and so they’re a good choice for carrying your weed around, there's nearly a zero percent chance of accidentally opening it. Much like mason jars, medication bottles are not totally smell proof, since they are only made to hold medication. They are pretty sturdy though, even if the dankest kush can make it's way through the bottle eventually.

Unlike mason jars, medication bottles don’t break easily and have more versatile sizes. The only way I've broken a medication bottle is by explicitly trying to, so you don’t really have to worry about them falling and breaking. The bottles are clear in color and tend to attract attention, everyone tends to look at a pill bottle the minute they see one. They have an orange tint, but you can still see what’s inside the bottle, meaning it wont be much of a secret you aren't carrying around your heart medication in that bottle. With the addition of a piece of change, your medication bottle can be converted into a rudimentary grinder, but I never really get good results from shaking a quarter around inside.

Pros

  • Smell proof
  • Child proof
  • Assorted sizes
  • Doesn't break easily

Cons

  • Not discreet

Picking the smell proof container that is best for you completely depends on your specific needs and smoking preferences.

Think about your budget and how often you're going to use this item, as well as just how much you need to ensure total smell-proof vs near-total smell-proof. In addition, whether or not you need to store small amounts of herbs or larger amounts as well as your entire kit should be taken into consideration.

If you’re not looking to carry large amounts of weed with you at once, then perhaps the Stick Sack are best for you. If you are planning on carrying your stash with you as well as your equipment, the Kush Kaddie is the way to go.

All of these products definitely do a much better job at keeping your bud use hidden, but some are more well designed than others.

There are certain characteristics that are essential to your smell proof container. Firstly, you should make sure that the container is airtight so that no smell escapes it. Of course, the size of the container will depend entirely on your personal needs. Just make sure that your container is dependable and versatile. Try and look at the pictures of the lids of these containers and see where any possible points of failure may be after constant use.

Keep in mind that your container will most likely be dropped, have water splashed on it, or in general be slightly abused. If you decide to buy a cheaper container, bear in mind that it might break easily. With all these options available for you, it should not be too difficult to find an ideal container for your weed.

Your nose knows. Always test your container by putting it in a different room and coming back to it after being somewhere else for a few minutes to make sure everything is tightened properly.

Weed and Sex: Does Weed Make Sex Better

Weed and Sex:
Does Weed Make Sex Better?

Keeping things spicy in the bedroom might have just made another friend: an actual honest-to-god herbal remedy. I am of course taking about none other than our good friend marijuana.

Marijuana and sex have been interlinked for some time now, with sexy bong girls being a category of erotic pictures in and of itself, and the general notion that mixing two good things together should logically produce an even better thing.

But what is the precise relationship with marijuana and sex?

Does it just enhance the sensations or does it increase sexual desire, time in the sack, or any other number of enhancements?

Research is not always cut and dry on the matter, but due to the highly personal nature of the topic I doubt there's a man with a clipboard following toking couples around and noting what he sees. If there is, his very presence wouldn't do much to get me in the mood, personally.

Does Marijuana Decrease Sex?

Alcohol's effect on the human sex drive & sexual function is well documented. While alcohol can reduce inhibitions and get two people into bed easier, alcohol induced erectile dysfunction (also known as Whiskey Dick) is more likely to occur the more an individual has drank.

Marijuana on the other hand has no physical link to making an erection harder to achieve or maintain. In fact, some studies cited show that 39 percent of men report lasting longer after smoking marijuana as opposed to how long they normally would last.

Other studies have shown that people who smoke cannabis on a daily basis tend to have 20% more sex during the course of a single year compared to non-smokers, whether this is due to smokers in general being more open and accepting compared to non-smokers is an object of contention in the scientific community.

There is some bad science saying that marijuana decreases testosterone to a noticeable degree, however any quantifiable decreases in testosterone connected to marijuana use are both temporary and well within normal healthy ranges.

Men who use marijuana are known to have a lower sperm count on average. The effect this has on sex is essentially nil, it should just be noted that couples trying to conceive should have the male abstain from marijuana to help increase the chances of conception.

By and large however, marijuana does not decrease the average frequency or amount of sex an individual is expected to have over the course of their lives.

Ways Marijuana Improves Sex

There's much more evidence supporting marijuana being positive to sexual activity as opposed to negative, with mentions of marijuana as a aphrodisiac dating back thousands of years and even being recognized as a cure for sexual dysfunction by the Indian alternative school of medicine known as Ayurveda.

A 1984 study suggests that marijuana increases sexual desire after consumption. Let alone the data from studies, there's mountains of anecdotal evidence evidence submitted by users of the herb that say that toking increases their sex drive in a noticeable way and makes them friskier and more in the mood.

The reasons for this are most likely multi-faceted and difficult to narrow down even if you commissioned a thousand studies on the matter, but one easily attributable effect of marijuana that can help make intimate times a bit more intimate is the tendency of marijuana to increase physical sensations. When your sense of touch is heightened, so are the pleasurable sensations that come from any sort of intimate contact. The state of euphoria produced by marijuana is very helpful to rev up the engine, so to speak. This increase in the pleasure felt by regular touching can easily put someone in the mood when they might not have considered it earlier, however I am suggesting this effect comes entirely from an individual's own mental perspective with sexual partners they already have, don't go around handing out joints thinking it'll make women want to be sexual with you.

The mental effects of marijuana have a positive effect on sexual function as well. The increased connection to emotion makes individuals feel more connected and you're more likely to lose yourself in the moment and lose track of time in your heightened state. One of the biggest mental walls marijuana can help break down is a feeling of anxiety or tenseness around sex. Toking can reduce performance anxiety as well as negative mental talk, melting down barriers that can bring sex to a screeching halt.

Marijuana is one of the few drugs that doesn't have a consistent effect on people across the board, so all of this should be taken with a grain of salt and a good framework of how marijuana works in the body. Depending on the strain as well as the dose administered, an individual might report some, all, or none of the effects listed above, but very few individuals report any negative outcomes with regards to cannabis and sex. The bottom line is you should start small and with strains that you know you tolerate well, if you get too high you might just fall asleep before you even get the chance to take your clothes off.

Parting Words

The relationship between marijuana and sex is a complex one, and any studies you read you should make sure to take note of how the study was conducted. A lot of studies on marijuana have a very low sample size (less than 100 people get surveyed in about 90% of the studies on marijuana and sex) and some have entirely flawed methods of collecting the data.

Smoking can be a very social experience, something that brings two individuals together in a meaningful way. This alone can help make two people feel more connected and make the sex better. It's always better to have sex with someone you care about and with whom you've bonded with than someone you're just going through the motions with for physical gratification. Don't use marijuana as a magic bullet cure for your sexual woes, but as a way to enhance something that's already working out for you.

Hope you get lucky.

The Top 5 Best Cheap Vaporizers

The Top 5 Best Cheap Vaporizers:
That I've Ever Bought

Written by: Taylor Walker | Updated: March 16th, 2019

It isn't entirely necessary to have NASA level technology just to enjoy an extremely satisfying vaporizer experience.

Even though it would not hurt to have the best batteries that money can buy and higher performance coupled with delicious cloudy vapor, we are for the purposes of this article talking about inexpensive vaporizers that still do a great if imperfect job.

So when you go about picking up a vape to suit you, you should keep in mind that the manufacturing process of any device gives away where a device may be lacking, always take note of all of the attributes being advertised.

The good news is that with just a little bit of research, you can find a cheap vaporizer that's strong in the areas you care about and so-so in the ones that don't matter too much to you.

It should also be mentioned that at the end of the day, even the most pricey of equipment does not always justify being worth the extra fifty or hundred dollars.

A high priced vaporizer is not necessarily a great vape. It really is the principle that Civic can get you from point A to point B just like a Bentley can.

Now let's go over the various options you need to keep an eye out for.

Things to Consider When Buying a Vaporizer

I'll be going through all of the attributes desirable in a vaporizer of any price point so that they can be compared to what these cheaper vaporizers are offering.

Throughout the article, I will explain how these attributes contribute to the overall smoking experience and why they are even desirable in the first place.

Note: If you don't particularly care to read about the things you should look for in a vaporizer, and would rather skip to my top 5 picks, simply click here.

Heating Methods

How a vaporizer accomplishes the vaporization process can vary pretty drastically.

There's three main options:

Convection, conduction, and hybrid.

Convection operates by drawing air of a certain temperature through the herb chamber and evenly applying the heat to all of the bud inside. This often makes for the most evenly roasted herbs but sometimes there is an issue with the temperature truly transferring to all of the bud properly.

Conduction heating is when the heating chamber itself is heated up and the heat is transferred through direct contact with this now hot chamber. Heat is more easily transferred but the bud closest to the hot edges of the chamber get the brunt of the heat, which usually means you need to stir around your herb to get the most out of the entire chamber.

Hybrids eliminate the negatives of both options while keeping the positives. Hybrid chambers are not often found in the less expensive vaporizers, but they are there none the less.

Airflow & Air Path

A common issue with lower quality cheap vaporizers is very little thought was put into putting a proper amount of air vents such that the vaping experience is much more like drawing in vapor as opposed to sucking vapor in through a straw, causing discomfort and strain over time. Ensure your choice in vaporizer has the proper amount or design in air flow to keep things coming along nicely.

The air path refers to what materials are used from chamber to mouthpiece. An all-glass air path usually results in cool, tasty smoke. Others use ceramic or a mix of the two at various points of the device. Different materials make for different vapor, simple as that.

Coil Design

Vaporizer pens designed explicitly for the use with concentrates function typically by placing the shatter on top of a coil to be vaporized. The more coils, the better. Less material is wasted and the taste & vapor yield tend to go up the more coils there are. Single coil designs aren't to be avoided necessarily, but it is definitely a sacrifice over more coils.

Titanium and ceramic are the two most common coil designs. Titanium coils tend to produce more vapor at a less desirable taste, and ceramic tends to do the opposite.

Mouthpiece Design

Since these cheaper vaporizers tend to be less precise in how they disperse heat, making sure the mouthpiece is designed to stay cool is tantamount to a proper experience. A longer mouthpiece gives more leeway for the vapor to cool, but there are innovative designs that make use of more advanced scientific principles to make a shorter mouthpiece not burn your lips whatsoever.

My Favorite Cheap Priced Vaporizers

1. Pulsar APX

The Pulsar APX is an excellent device that is one of Pulsar's best sellers The Pulsar APX at least covers all the bases needed for it to be functional, portable and affordable. The APX is possibly the most cost effective portable vaporizer available in market right now. It is actually quite surprising how good the Pulsar APX is in comparison to the higher end vaporizers at higher price points

The Pulsar APX is a 3 in 1 vaporizer, which means that it is compatible with herbs and it concentrates well with all oils. The Pulsar APX vaporizer also features a state of the art ceramic heating chamber that heats up in forty seconds flat.

Accessibility

The accessibility and easy the device is to use is one of the APX's biggest selling points. The APX is a really simple to use vaporizer, any newbie will know how to use all of its features after only a few battery charges worth of use. It's built with a 1-button set design which allows the user to have control over the vaporizer on/off switch, as well as set the temperature switch, and all of the other functions that are at the tip of your finger. The ease of use and control makes it a very hassle-free experience.

Design & Extras

The APX has a pretty unique design. Even though it is similar in shape to other portable vaporizers like the Atmos Vicod 5G, this unit comes with an oil adapter that can be set up quickly if you'd prefer to vaporize with oils or wax. It would be nice to add as well, that the product comes with a charging cable, tweezers, and tools for cleaning. Smart design is valuable design, it's as simple as that.

Battery Life

Lastly, the Pulsar APX has comparably the best battery out there. You can easily get 2 good hours of consistent usage per battery, which is quite impressive considering the APX's tiny size. Also, Recharge time isn't too long, it takes about 90 minutes to get it back to full charge. It is extremely rare to find a vaporizer that gives a longer usage time than charge time.

2. Pulsar APX Wax

The APX Wax is the latest release from Pulsar, brought into the market because some people wanted a wax only device as opposed to constantly converting their APX to a concentrate ready state. This is an ultra tiny wax vaporizer with a powerful quartz triple coil, and as far as I know, is the first of its kind. The triple coil design leads to minimal waste & weird gunk accumulating in odd spots.

It's one of the smallest wax vaporizers ever, it feels like it should be able to be plugged into a cigarette lighter port in a car when not in use.

It measures down to a paltry 3.5 inches tall, for reference. It's worth mentioning that The APX Wax is one of the most discreet vaporizers I own, since it can be palmed easily. It also has a pretty decent aesthetic design to it with a very sleek finish.

Ease Of Use

The Pulsar APX Wax comes with a concentrate jar and a metal dabbing tool to make the dabbing experience as easy as possible, which is a definite plus since both of these items range from $5-15 each if purchased separately. The Pulsar APX wax is perfect for users that like to vaporize wherever and whenever they might find themselves because of how it can easily be stored in your pocket. Simple design, just press and vape.

Design & Extras

The APX wax has a very special design. Unlike the other portable vaporizers, the Pulsar has a triple quartz coil which means there is a total of three coils working together in tandem to produce quality vapor. Not only does this make the loading process easier, but this also means you are able to take in a substantial amount of product in one go if your tolerance is pretty strong. The entire chamber is constructed of mostly quartz which is a pretty exquisite touch, if you ask me. Rich and practical, what a mix!

Vapor Production

The vapor production on the Pulsar APX Wax is absolutely staggering. You, the vaper, are able to get such large clouds from this vaporizer due to the triple coil accommodating such a large amount of wax, the hits are super intense, crisp and not to mention rewarding. The Pulsar APX Wax is quite possibly the best choice of all of the inexpensive vaporizers in this list if you're looking for a portable wax device. Because of its design, triple coil delivers some massive hits of vapor, while maintaining an exquisite taste. The triple quartz coil provides very flavorful vapor, I prefer ceramic for taste alone but quartz is the best middle ground between titanium's production and ceramic's taste. The size of dab you can take at a single time always knocks me off my feet.

3. Magic Flight Launch Box

The Launch Box by Magic Flight is a classic vape that has been around in the market for years. I have seen many of my friends use this vaporizer for years and they were actually incredibly happy with it. For at least 70% of the people I know the Launch box was their introductory vape, and nearly all of them appreciate the inexpensive entry to such an amazing way to consume herb.

The Magic Flight Launch Box has been around for many years, and is still one of the most popular vapes currently on the market. The reasoning for this is varied, the Magic Flight is not only simple, you just push in the battery and wait for your vapor, but it also delivers incredible vapor quality and allows you to vaporizer virtually anywhere due to its compact design.

The Magic Flight Lunch Box is still one of my favorite vaporizers, especially when I'm looking for something small to vape with while outside of the house. It's great for a rage of surroundings such as festivals and outdoor settings. I find myself going back to it often purely on nostalgia value. And getting stoned out of my tree, but I digress.

Design & Ease Of Use

The MFLB is without a doubt one of the easiest vapes provided in the market right now, both in terms of its design and its features. It’s heat-up time is super quick and is ready go almost as soon as you insert the battery.

To get the Launch Box to get going all you do is insert the provided rechargeable battery into the battery chamber and hold the battery in place which will activate the heating chamber. It only has one heating temperature but nevertheless, the temperature it’s set at provides a very smooth and enjoyable vapor. Sometimes it can be difficult to hold the battery in for longer periods of time, but some people I know have used rubber bands to great effect.

Every year the Launch Box team improves how consistently the chamber works. In fact, they even replace most broken Launch Boxes and send you a new one, and every year when I send out my broken one for a new one nearly all of the attributes I didn't like were improved upon in some way.

The heating chamber is quite huge so you are able to fit a decent amount of herb into it. Launch Box users affectionately refer to the chamber as a "trench" due to it's shape. The herb chamber has a unique design which allows for your herbs to be vaporized evenly, preventing the need to stir your stash after a few hits, the trench design means the sides of the chamber are heated, not just the bottom. It may be simple but it out-performs most portables on the market in my opinion, as far as vapor quality goes. This is the vape you want if you want to enter the realm of vaporizers and have all of your features covered in an inexpensive package.

Battery Life

The Magic Flight Launch Box has a pretty impressive battery life, especially for such a small vape in comparison to everything I have seen in the market. Usually, you are typically able to get around 1 hour of consistent use per battery. Also, you should keep in mind it comes with two batteries, so you can just switch the batteries once the one in use dies out. With one charging and one in use, there isn't much reason to have any down time if you plan it out properly.

4. Atmos Jump

The Atmos Jump is without a doubt one of the best vape pens that exist at the current price point. It exists in the middle ground between vape pen and true handheld vaporizer, making it an interesting addition to the vaping landscape.

What I mean by that is that the Atmos Jump is pen shaped and relatively small but it still functions to vaporize dry herb, something typically only bigger handheld vaporizers try to accomplish.

The device is big enough for the chamber size to be satisfying but still small enough to be a vaporizer pen.

Here's why I like this vaporizer so much:

Discreetness

One of the best features I’ve noticed about the Atmos Jump is how discreet it is. The device functions at a single temperature setting, and while for some this is a huge turn off, at 350 F, it’s hot enough to get you all of the desired THC and CBD without risking combusting whatsoever. The best part about this temperature setting is there is relatively minimal vapor, which adds to the stealthiness of the gizmo. You can be out and about, and no one would bat an eyelid when you are puffing it out. Other than that, the pen’s shapes is small enough to easily be hidden and out of sight when the need arises. It looks a lot like commonly found nicotine vaporizers on top of that, so in most cities there's a near zero percent chance of anyone ever hassling you.

Design & Ease Of Use

First of all, the first plus is that there is only one temperature setting, although a major issue for some users, isn’t a bad thing. Personally, I heard that most users thought that the temperature was spot on, and didn’t really feel like they needed to adjust anything. Of course, some hardcore vapers out there would probably be skeptical about this, but for the beginner or casual user, that one temperature setting actually adds to the easy-to-use value which the Atmos Jump provides. A single button experience is just so easy, I like not worrying my vape isn't at the right temperature, it helps eliminate having so many options that you just don't know which to pick.

For those who don't know if they want a vaporizer pen or a true handheld vaporizer, the design of the Jump perfectly suits that niche. More power and battery life than a pen, but not as much bulk and commitment as a handheld.

The Jump’s vapor quality is somewhere in between those who want a much thinner and more discreet vape and more flavor, and those looking for dense, extremely worthwhile vapor. It kind of places itself in middle ground, which to me, is a great place to be for a customer base of casual vapers.

5.Boundless CFC Vaporizer

The Boundless CFC is the most cost effective vaporizer in the Boundless line-up and is becoming quickly a favorite amount vape aficionados. The Boundless brand has really been quite impressive with the build quality and affordability of their vaporizers.

The smaller, more travel friendly CFC is quite a beast with plenty of power, lots of versatility, features, and enough customization options to suit even the most picky of users.

While boundless has an entire range of CF products, the CFC is provides the greatest dollar-to-value ratio out of the entire line in my opinion.

Discreetness

As Boundless’s most discreet vaporizer, the CFC is easy to use in public without attracting any attention from any of those around you. Although it does have an integrated LED screen, it is pretty low key and won’t arouse much suspicion.

It’s quite safe! As a result of its stealthy, slender design, it can easily be hidden in the palm of the hand, and it is small enough to tuck away in a pocket without any obvious bulges. As its vapor production is fairly thin, this actually works in your favor when it comes to discretion. However, it’s important to note that the plastic mouthpiece is quite fragile, and so needs to be handled with care when transporting it around. As such, it is not really suited for rigorous activity but is a great companion when out running errands.

Design & Ease Of Use

The Boundless CFC was designed to be slender and ergonomic to the user, and my only gripe with the plastic housing is that I feel this thing can't take much physical punishment before calling it quits.

Surprisingly for a cheap vaporizer, it allows complete temperature control from a range of 212°F to 446°F. There are of course the standard low-medium-high settings as well for those who haven't fine tuned their preferences, but I really like a specific vape temperature. The LED display makes it extremely easy to see where you're at as far as settings go.

It even comes with a cleaning brush, something few vapes take the care to bundle in for free.

Conclusion

In conclusion, cheap vaporizers do exist and by God are they amazing. As we have seen with all of the options that we explored, the economically priced goods offer a lot in terms of features and functionality that really aren't extremely outclasses by their more expensive counterparts.

If you tend to break vaporizers a lot, finding your favorite from this list and just buying it every time it breaks is great way to keep your wallet full enough for other aspects of your life, or to buy more ganja. I've tried all of these vaporizers for a significant amount of time and my full reviews can be found on this website, I highly recommend all of them.

How to Make a Sploof That Actually Works

How To Make a Sploof:
That Actually Works

While marijuana acceptance is at an all-time high in the Western world, many still live in unfortunate living arrangements or even entire neighborhoods not sympathetic to marijuana use. Even those who have nothing to lose as far as police or landlords go can find themselves wanting to do the respectful thing and keep the scent of their toking as discreet as possible.

The simplest method to muffle indoor smoke is to just blow it out the window.

Anyone who's tried this knows that it is inconvenient to have to stand near the window the whole time and on top of all of that you usually need to put your entire head outside to ensure none of the smoke comes right back in due to how air pressure works.

As usual, necessity is the mother of all invention. There are many commercially available options like the SmokeBuddy in which the cannabis smoke is exhaled into and activated carbon then absorbs all of the pungent chemicals that give away the fact you've smoked long after you've done the deed. These options frequently run into the $50 range and have to be replaced semi frequently. I'm a huge proponent of DIY work and prefer to make my own solutions to my problems instead of paying someone else a premium for the same end result.

A home made "smoke muffler" is affectionately referred to as a sploof. The simplest sploof is simply a dryer sheet fashioned to the end of a toilet paper roll that is supposed to help mask the smell. Such a simple design usually results in the room smelling like laundry as well as weed as opposed to just laundry. They also do very little to change the intensity or staying power of the marijuana scent. Cardboard is porous so the smell stays with it and a single dryer sheet really doesn't do much. Not only do they not really help the smell, now you have another piece of stinky contraband to hide/dispose of.

So, here's a couple recipes to make a proper sploof.

Activated Charcoal Sploof

The activated charcoal sploof is hands down the most effective method for masking weed smell, while most sploofs seek to hide the smell of smoked cannabis, the use of activated charcoal eliminates smell entirely by absorbing the smoke as opposed to hoping it picks up enough lemon scent on its way through a dryer sheet to mask it's herbal beginnings.

For this sploof, you'll need some activated charcoal, a paper towel, a plastic bottle with a mouthpiece you can easily blow into (water bottles with nipples work best for an airtight seal), and a way to poke a fairly significant hole into said bottle. Activated charcoal can be purchased at pet stores since it is commonly used in fish tanks to absorb unwanted materials. Enough to make your sploof last 3-4 months can be purchased for around twelve dollars, so if you spend more than twenty dollars making this sploof you went wrong somewhere.

First, rinse the charcoal in water. Not enough to completely soak the charcoal, but just get everything nice and damp.

Next, make some small holes in the bottom of the bottle. All you need is enough holes to ensure you can exhale air through the bottle relatively easily.

To make sure the charcoal doesn't go through these holes, add some paper towel to the bottom of the bottle to act as a screen. This is an alright time to blow through the bottle to see if enough holes were made.

Now, fill the bottle with the charcoal.

That's all there is to it. This is the exact same principle employed by the SmokeBuddy, just without all the fancy materials and branding. the amount of charcoal used ensures that it will be effective for several months. This sploof eliminates smell, so as soon as you start getting a whiff or two of dank you know it is time to swap out charcoal.

The Water Bottle Sploof

While activated charcoal is the cream of the crop for scent elimination, it isn't something everyone has on hand or even easy access to. When waiting to make a trip to the pet store or for your Amazon shipment to come in, a water bottle sploof can be an effective way to help mask your nightly relaxation activities so you can enjoy your high without paranoia bringing you down.

This sploof requires a plastic water bottle, scented dryer sheets, a rubber band or other way to secure the sheets in place, and a knife or scissors.

Start by cutting off about 3/4ths of the bottle, you only need the top with the mouthpiece. Just cut where the bottle finally becomes it's widest after the tapered beginning.

Now fill the water bottle with dryer sheets. About three or four is satisfactory, too many will make the airflow less than ideal and hamper the efficacy.

Cap it all off by placing another dryer sheet over the open end of the bottle and securing it in place with a string or rubber band.

The downside to this method is that the dryer sheets should be constantly replaced, even after a single session you will be able to notice the dryer sheets have became very brown. This method is also not as effective as activated charcoal, but I'd say it is somewhere around 70% to 85% as effective at accomplishing a discreet smoke.

The Toilet Paper Roll Sploof

This is hands down the last thing I'd resort to, and I would only do so if you don't have the items required for the above two methods.

However, if you absolutely need a sploof and are running low on supplies, you're almost guaranteed to have the following laying around:

An toilet paper roll, dryer sheets, and an elastic band.

It should be pretty self explanatory based on the picture above, but essentially you just stuff the empty toilet paper roll with a few dryer sheets, then take another 2-3 sheets and place over the end of the toilet paper roll, and secure them with the elastic band.

This will work, but definitely not as good as the other two methods listed above.

Important Notes

A sploof will only function well if you are smoking from a device that allows you to combust all of the marijuana in a single breath. For instance, for joints or huge bong bowls there is a period where there smoke is coming from the cherry that isn't going into the sploof, this is going to make all of your efforts to conceal the smell worthless. For this reason I highly recommend packing "snappers" in a bong or pipe so all of the smoke goes from your device to your lungs and finally through the sploof in a single pull.

With all that said, either of these two methods will service a cannabinist quite nicely. I would be weary of simpler designs because having a sploof that just adds a pleasant after tone to your marijuana smoke is hardly desirable. While the second sploof can be upgraded by adding a bit of charcoal, it tends to do a fairly good job at just leaving the smell of the dryer sheets which goes away faster than the smell of marijuana alone.

Phantom smokers, your time is now.

Best Dry Herb Vaporizers For Marijuana

Best Dry Herb Vaporizers for Weed:
My Top 10 Picks

Written by: Taylor | Updated: March 12th, 2019

Vaporizing is without a doubt one of the best ways to consume marijuana, or any other "dry herbs" for that matter. An issues many consumers face is choosing the right vaporizer, from the hundreds of models available on the market.

This is where I come in.

I've been vaping marijuana for almost a decade and have went through countless different models over the years.

As you can maybe tell from the library of vaporizer reviews scattered among this website.

Below I've created a list of my favorite dry herb vaporizers both portable and desktops.

In this article, I've done my best to include a plethora of my favorite marijuana vaporizers to suit the needs of each and every one of you.

Whether you're looking for something that won't break the bank, or you want the best weed vaporizer that money can buy, I've included a bunch of vaporizers to suit all different needs.

No matter what your budget is, or whether you're looking for a desktop vaporizer or a portable, I've got you covered.

Unlike virtually all other top 10 vaporizer lists you'll find, each of the vaporizers listed below is a product that I have actually tested myself.

They are all products that I can stand behind with confidence.

Without wasting anymore of your time, lets get into my favorite vaporizers for weed.

My Top 10 Picks

Atmos Vicod 5G (2nd Gen)

The Atmos Vicod 5G is the ideal dry herb vaporizer for those who want a no nonsense dry herb vaporizer. The Vicod 5G is a simple, easy to use vaporizer that can be turned on and used very quickly. The device has no customization or mobile app connectivity settings, and although that might come as a turnoff for some, it makes using the device very simple and effortless, you buy a vaporizer, you get a vaporizer. It tries to hit all of the bases without going unnecessarily in depth.

The 5G has an average-sized ceramic oven that can be used solo or shared with about three people comfortably, along with great tasting, quality vapor that can usually be found in high-end vaporizers. You're paying for the extra features in those though, not added quality, Vicod does great. The Atmos Vicod 5G is a very simple but effective device that produces a high quantity of vapor for half the price of most vaporizers that can chuck clouds as well.

Pros

  • Can be turned on quickly
  • Good vapor quality
  • Very affordable

Cons

  • No customization or mobile app connectivity settings

DaVinci IQ

DaVinci's creations tend to top the charts each year they are released. The IQ is no different. On the outside, the DaVinci IQ looks and feels amazing, each iteration becomes more futuristic than the last. Additionally, the vaporizer’s performance is excellent. The DaVinci is simple enough to use for those who have little experience with vaporizers, but is still powerful enough for use by experienced users. The Zirconia air path found within the vaporizer is built to help keep the vapor cool as it comes out of the vaporizer as this device has a relatively short vapor path. While it definitely does help in that regard and eliminates the need for a drawing tube, it aids in the production of thick, rich vapor as well.

The DaVinci IQ allows you to customize its temperature settings according to your preferences. With its patented Smart Path Technology, you can make sure to get optimal sessions from your device. DaVinci is one of the few manufacturers I've bought from who actually introduce something innovative when they tack on "Technology" to what seems like simple concepts. The DaVinci IQ also has Bluetooth and a smartphone app, so you can control everything by simply accessing the app from your phone. If you’re a tech buff and enjoy new gadgets, the DaVinci IQ is the vaporizer for you. Can you imagine telling Cheech & Chong in the '70s that people would use miniature computers to customize their marijuana experience?

Pros

  • Very simple to use
  • Customizable temperature settings
  • Smart Path Technology

Cons

  • The oven requires frequent cleaning
  • Draw resistance is non-ideal

G Pen Elite

The producer of the G Pen Elite, Grenco Science, is one of the most well known vaporizer companies out there, thanks to all of the press associated with hooking up with Snoop Dogg. It helps that the G-Pen was one of the first pen style vaporizers that was worth the money. Times have changed and so has the G Pen, now calling itself the G Pen Elite. I've eagerly awaited modernization of the G Pen and the Elite came pretty far.

Now that the Elite is on the market, it’s evident that it was worth the wait. The G Pen Elite comes with an array of advanced functions that make the device simple to use while still allowing for more advanced functionality. Its ergonomic design allows it to naturally complement the human had, giving it a great feel that isn't awkward. The G Pen Elite is coupled with an LED display that displays all the information you may need, like heat setting and remaining battery life. The vaporizer offers a temperature range of 200 to 428 degrees Fahrenheit. You can change the temperature according to your personal preferences and needs.

Additionally, the device heats up quite fast; it can reach up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit in just thirty seconds. Internally, the G Pen Elite contains a large 0.75-gram ceramic chamber. Another great feature of the G Pen Elite is that it includes a thin grinder that can really come in handy at times when you need to prepare your loose leaf, as finely ground cannabis suits the G Pen Elite the best. To sum up, the G Pen Elite is a fantastic portable vaporizer that is well-priced and is great for those who want wonderful performance paired with and ease of use.

Pros

  • Very simple to use
  • Desirable vapor quality
  • Ergonomically designed
  • Adjustable temperature settings

Cons

  • Slightly expensive

Arizer Extreme Q

Desktop vaporizers offer a lot of advantages compared to handhelds, most of which is that nearly all of the energy can be poured into making sure high amounts of the best possible vapor can be produced. Portable vaporizers are limited by their power sources that need to be a balance of powerful and high capacity, and because of their small size usually have a limited herb chamber.

The DaVinci IQ took the idea to heart. The same people who've made some of the best portable vaporizers also have a great line of desktop vapes that I use to this day. The IQ seeks to deliver a top of the line experience that is still affordable to the average user. It's around a third of the price of a Volcano vaporizer and offers about 80% of what the Volcano can offer as far as raw industrial grade vapor production.

Entire bags of vapor can be filled and passed around between a full room of friends or you can suck on the whip attachment to feel like you're in the womb of a ganja goddess getting your fix right from the source. It's easy to use as it has an LCD screen and four buttons that control all of the other relevant features. If I was the type of person to have a study somewhere in my house, this thing would be where ever intellectuals would normally put a globe.

Pros

  • Affordable despite being top of the line
  • Comes with a remote control
  • Comes with cleaning accessories
  • Fast preheating

Cons

  • Has fragile glass parts
  • Takes a bit to fully fill a balloon
  • Requires semi-frequent cleaning

Firefly 2

Up next on the list is the Firefly 2. This vaporizer is absolutely stellar for vaporizing dry herb, but it will work perfectly with thick oil concentrate as well as waxes as well. The Firefly 2 has a fire button, which is the only way you can start the vaporizing process. The advantage of this feature is that it causes less odor to be emitted from the device, since heating only occurs on command. The feature also significantly extends battery life. For this reason, I pick my Firefly 2 when I need to squeeze every second of usable battery life into my day or weekend.

The Firefly 2 is a bit of a workhorse as far as vaporizers or, it's almost in a class of it's own as an e-pipe or something like that In other words, the device is the 4-wheel drive, heavy duty pick-up truck of portable vaporizers. Although the Firefly’s weight might be considered a setback by some, its bulkiness feels good in the hand, like a durable and quality piece of tech. In terms of its vapor, you can rest assured that the Firefly’s vapor is perfectly clean and full of flavor due to the borosilicate glass vapor pathway.  Glass pathway vapes deliver little to no added flavor, so you know precisely what your herb tastes like.

I consider the Firefly 2 a vaporizer pipe because it heats up almost instantly while providing up to ten fully packed, fully cooked bowls of flavorful, clean vapor. It’s also quite easy to refill and is uncomplicated to clean and maintain. Although the Firefly’s price might be a little high, you can be certain that it’s worth the price you’ll pay due to its durability, ease of use, and high quality.

Pros

  • Incredible vapor quality
  • Includes 2 removable batteries
  • Easy setting via mobile app
  • Portable and concealable

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Not the largest chamber around

Pax 3

Pax Labs, the creator of the Pax 3 is a technology company based in Silicon Valley, so these guys probably worked a good few tech start-ups before they decided to put their eggs into the vaporizing basket. Thanks to it's ingenious design, the Pax 3 comes packed with technological advances more typical of consumer appliances than drug paraphernalia. For instance, when not in use, the Pax 3 will automatically shut down and restart again when you pick it up to use it. It's great for dry herb but the option for concentrates is there with the Pax 3.

The Pax 3 also offers other high-tech features such as Bluetooth, haptic feedback, and a smartphone app that can be used to control its settings in an extremely precise manner. The Pax 3’s lip-sensing technology increases the devices efficiency by activating the heat when the device is brought near the lips and deactivating it when the device is removed, thankfully they made sure this feature is actually good at what it does before shipping it. This allows the device to save up battery life. Not only is the Pax 3 remarkably easy to use, it's gone the way of sleek Apple-esque products as many other vaporizers have.

What's going on underneath the hood? Well, the Pax 3 has a 3500mAH battery and heat-up time of only fifteen seconds! The Pax 3 has been called the “iPhone of Vaporizers” for its marvelous design, ease of use, functionality, and great aesthetic. For those of you who want a small, sleek portable vaporizer, then the Pax 3 is the device for you.

Pros

  • Great tasting vapor
  • Can be easily customized
  • Easy to use with vibrations and LEDs for quick feedback

Cons

  • Slightly expensive
  • It isn't the be-all-end-all vaporizer

The Volcano

Surprising since it's been around probably for something a decade, no other desktop vape has came close to actually dethroning the Volcano as the best desktop vaporizer of all time.

It's closer to a commercial piece of equipment than it is a personal vaporizer. By that I mean someone could easily run a stand where they sell bags of awesome vapor produced by a Volcano in the back of a converted ice cream van. Man, now that'd be a good day at the beach.

The only prohibitive thing about the Volcano is that it is one of the most expensive vaporizers, but that's the price you pay for the cream of the crop. At least it's extremely durable and well made, I'd hate it if this thing ever broke due to mine or my friend's clumsiness or misuse, it's very forgiving. This isn't something you buy and think "Eh, big whoop," because it whoops you in the ass more than much else. It's reputation should speak for itself, but I will be one of the thousands of stoners out there who will agree that the Volcano is the best desktop vaporizer of all time.

Pros

  • Vapor production & quality cannot be beat
  • Extremely shareable when used with bags
  • Extremely long lifespan, never even heard of one breaking through normal use

Cons

  • Very expensive

Vapir Rise 2.0

Another great desktop vaporizer is none other than the Vapir Rise 2.0. It is compatible with both bags and whip attachments and is one of the more affordable desktop vaporizers that aims to provide as close to the Volcano experience as it can without draining your wallet.

The Rise 2.0 improved on it's predecessor in that the fan that blows the vaporizer out can be turned off and on at will, allowing the user to suck it through a whip attachment themselves or let the bud season for a few seconds before allowing the vapor to begin flowing.

Added temperature controls mean a wide range of temperatures can be serviced for those who like choosing a more subtle or a more in your face high depending on how they may feel on a particular day.

To summarize, the Vapir Rise 2.0 is the best desktop vaporizer when all factors such as price, vapor quality, build quality, ease of use, and ease of sharing are all factored in. What I'm trying to say is this is the best all around choice if you're trying to get as far as you can in as many of those attributes as possible.

Pros

  • Above average vapor quality
  • User friendly
  • Best price to quality ratio of all desktop vaporizers

Cons

  • Some complain that 420 F is much too low of a maximum temperature

Silver Surfer

While the Volcano made bag-style desktop vaporizers en vogue, some manufacturers have decided to focus on devices meant to be used with a whip attachment.

The Silver Surfer is perfect for a hookah type experience in the leisure of an inside of doors environment, except instead of harsh shisha smoke you're inhaling smooth, crisp vapor with all of the flavor compounds intact. I attribute the highly delectable vapor to the ceramic heating chamber, because it's either that or some kind of gypsy magic.

The Silver Surfer went for a very unique all aluminum exterior design and is operated through the use of a temperature knob. A knob is less precise than digital options, but I find the process a lot more approachable than trying to figure out if there really is a difference in vaping experience by just adjusting the temperature by a few degrees precisely.

Overall, the Silver Surfer is a very quick to use vaporizer that seldom leaves me unsatisfied. Make sure your plant matter is properly ground up to avoid any frustrating sessions where you just can't stretch your herb as far as you know it can go.

Pros

  • Stylish in appearance
  • The best whip style vaporizer in my arsenal as far as raw vapor quality
  • Large sized herb chamber,
  • Great quality vapor for the price tag

Cons

  • Slow draw technique needs to be perfected to fully enjoy this vape

Super Surfer

The Super Surfer functions as a more precise and technical piece of equipment compared to it's younger brother, the Silver Surfer.

I suppose many enjoyed what the Silver Surfer had to offer but wished for the more complex features of other desktop vaporizers, and so the Super Surfer was born. Now bags can be used as well as whip, so now a fan controlled by a knob has been added, this knob is directly beside the temperature knob.

Now that vaporizers are becoming increasingly advanced, manufacturers are looking for new ways to stand out among other products. This vaporizer has added customizable mood lights to help create that '60s drug den vibe that imparts a very chill atmosphere to the room, I personally like it a lot.

Where else is the Super Surfer different? There's now an air filtration system that prevents any material in the heating chamber from making it's way through the whip and into your mouth. Lovely.

Basically, if you’re looking for a great desktop vape made from stylish aluminum that provides enough vapor to keep an elephant stoned, give the Super Surfer a try.

Pros

  • Very attractive design
  • Comes with extras
  • Customizable air flow
  • No plant matter reaches the user's mouth

Cons

  • Glass knobs reduce durability
  • Knobs mean temperature cannot be set precisely

The Rise of Vaping Marijuana

Vaping, whether using a dry herb vaporizer or e-cigarettes, has become very popular in the last few years. This has mostly occurred due to the rise of studies such as those funded by Cancer Research UK, which have reported that vaporizing causes fewer long-term health risks than regular smoking.

While the jury is still out on just how significant the long term effects are, most users do report increased lung function. Many people are now turning to vaping for a much more milder effect on their respiratory system compared to combusting material.

Since the demand has risen, so has the need for manufacturers to release products worth their salt and that fit the needs of users based on how they actually use these kinds of products. There is an abundance of vaporizer options to choose from now, with aspects like discreetness as well as power being at the forefront of the marijuana vaporizer industry. For most people, after switching to using a good portable vaporizer that is both convenient and reliable, it’s hard to go back to burning weed full time.

But less scrupulous manufacturers have also began to cash in on the dry herb craze. In fact, there's one vaporizer who's name escapes me out there sold by four different companies that is the exact same product from China just rebranded for each company, they all function nearly exactly the same. Because of this, I found the need to list the good ones somewhere people can find the information. Not only are bad vaporizers just plain old ineffective, they toe the line as to what is considered "safe" to an uncomfortable degree.

The Benefits of Vaporizing Weed

Dry herb vaporizers have become one of the quickest advancing technologies in the world of cannabis consumption. Before the creation and rise of vaporizers, cannabis users were forced to combust their material directly, whether by inhaling it through a joint, bong, or a pipe. With the rise of medicinal patients who want the benefits of cannabis without harsh smoke, vaporizers are dominating a large portion of the marijuana piece market share

Vaporizers not only keep the user from experiencing the harsh side effects of the direct burning of cannabis, but they also do a better job at delivering THC than any other method. Instead of burning the herb, vaporizers evaporate or vaporize the cannabinoids into a smooth vapor, and specific temperatures can be set to determine which compounds the user would prefer to receive the most of.

The previously mentioned vaporizer reviews were written with the intent of making choosing the right vaporizer easier. By going through these reviews, it should be easier for you to choose the kind of vaporizer you need based on overall quality, performance, ease of use, as well as price. Each different vaporizer sports different types of customization settings and controls, allowing you to set up your vaporizer the way you want it. Depending on how often you want to put your vape to use, you should consider how much you're willing to spend.

Ideally, look for getting as much battery life and quality performance as you can for your dollar, the rest is all for treating yourself.

Conclusion

Hopefully if you made it this far, you have a rough idea of which dry herb vaporizer will best suit your needs. If not, please comment down below what you're looking for, and I will do my best to help you.

I'd also just love to hear your feedback, so don't hesitate to comment down below!

The Top 5 LED Grow Lights (Buyers Guide)

Choosing The Best LED Grow Lights:
Everything You Need to Know

Written by: Taylor Walker | Updated: March 14th, 2019

If you're reading this article, chances are you're wanting to grow your own high quality marijuana, either for medicinal or recreational use (in states where its legal of course ?)

Whatever the reason you're interested in LED grow lights is, you're likely here because you want to know which model of LED lights are most effective for cannabis growth. Not all LEDs are made equal, so making sure you buy botanical grade lights is essential. Once you've climbed that hurdle, you need to ensure your lights are versatile enough to satisfy each period of the plant's grow span.

This is what I aim to help you achieve.

I've been using marijuana medicinally in Canada for years. The issue I came across is the producers who got the OK from the government tend to supply overpriced weed that's been irradiated after the fact for "sanitation."

I'd rather know how my weed was grown, and I knew that a lot of the money weed consumers pay is for the convenience of already grown plants.

For this reason, I decided to start growing my own weed, and in that time I've had to buy a bunch of different grow lights as my tastes and personal growing ambitions evolved over time.

If you've never been to my website before, my name is Taylor Williams and I've been an avid consumer of cannabis for a little over a decade. After the first few years and starting to learn things like the differences between strains and marijuana that was produced & harvested properly, I decided to give it a go myself.

I've been growing for at least half of my smoking career by this point and I've picked up a few things along the ride. Figuring out how to best effectively use the resources and space available to you are essential for growing quality bud. One drawback from indoor growing is that you need to replicate the energy plants harness from the Sun to grow. For that, you'll need a proper grow light in the right wavelengths.

LED grow lights are by far the most energy efficient lights for growing healthy bushy plants. The startup cost is higher than other kinds of grow lights, but the saved energy costs more than make up for it.

My experience with LED grow lights has been very varied, with many of the models I've purchased being better than others.

Here are the ones that stick out in my mind as ones I've had to worry about the least.

My Top 5 Picks

My criteria for picking the following lights are as follows: overall price for what you get, spectrum of light offered, size of light compared to power output, and overall power output.

VIPARSPECTRA Reflector-Series 450W Full Spectrum (My Top Pick)

For modest growers, a 450W light is the perfect choice.

The VIPARSPECTRA Reflector Series light in the reflector series is ideal for the novice grower. The true power used by this light is around 200W, so the minimum yield if used properly and you have the proper amount of plants is around 4 ounces, that's a quarter of a pound!

VIPARSPECTRA lights are easy and simple to use, it's more or less plug in and go. The entirety of the light spectrum is given off by this light, and it even has different settings for when the plant is in the vegetative state versus the flowering state, reducing the amount of work & worry considerably. This light is equipped with both fans and aluminum cooling plates to ensure next to no heat output.

For the beginner and intermediate grower whose grow space is about 2.5' by 2.5', this is the perfect balance of quality, light output, and price. We like these lights because they leave nothing to chance and I know whenever something is going wrong that if my VIPAR is placed properly, it's not my light I need to be troubleshooting. We've had ours for over five years and it will probably see another five before we need to replace it.

Want a reliable LED grow light that won't totally break the bank? Click here to learn more!.

Pros

  • Easy and simple to use
  • Different settings for different stages
  • Durable
  • With fans and cooling plates for no heat output

Cons

  • Light is extremely bright for direct eye contact
  • Not waterproof

Advanced Platinum Series P150 150w

Advanced Platinum is a fairly new contender in the LED grow light sphere, and their name had me believe the price would be astronomical in comparison to what they promise, under some false pretense of "luxury."

These lights, however, are only about 20% more expensive than a comparable light and have all of the bells and whistles necessary to turn a grow from guerilla to gargantuan.

The Advanced Platinum lights, much like their VIPAR counterparts, are equipped with whisper quiet cooling fans and an aluminum heat sink to avoid heat output. Advanced Platinum P150 boasts the ability to replace a 250W HPS light while only using 86 watts of true power. A single unit is best suited for closet grows or grow tents not exceeding 3' by 1.5', while multiple units can service a much more large scale grow if necessary.

Want a fat sack that you can say you grew all by yourself? Click here for these lights.

Pros

  • Produces very little amount of heat
  • Strong alternative to sunlight
  • With cooling fans and heat sink

Cons

  • Slightly less coverage
  • A little expensive

VIPARSPECTRA Dimmable Series PAR700 700w

This light is for those who have a few grows under their belt and want to expand their garden to new levels, the PAR700 allows a grower to individually tailor what parts of the light spectrum they want delivered and at what level of intensity.

All stages of plant growth are covered with this full spectrum light and can be dimmed in several fashions to better suit the light requirements for plants at different stages of growth. Its fans are extremely quiet and coupled with the included heat sinks make for a very stealthy grow.

This light can replace a 600W HPS light while only using a true power of 326 watts. Using the 0.5g/W formula, that's a pound and a half of the stickiest of the icky.

Want more control over your grow lights? Click here to grab a dimmable PAR700.

Pros

  • Very useful for those who want to expand their garden
  • Full coverage of all growth stages
  • Different dim settings

Cons

  • Light could be very, very bright

Roleadro Galaxy Hydro Series 300W

The Roleadro Galaxy Hydro Series is the best priced light on this list for what it does.

While equipped with the right cooling fans and aluminum heat sinks for the job, the fans are louder than VIPAR or Advanced Platinum lights, so it's better for grow areas that are more segregated from the part of the household inhabited on a more regular basis.

The Galaxy Hydro has both a lower starting price and lower operational price than most grow lights of any kind and nearly all LED grow lights. It can replace a 400W HPS light while providing the same yields and only drawing 132 watts of true power from your outlet. This light got an inadvertent durability test: it was dropped from about four feet and besides a visible ding the light still functions flawlessly.

Need a light but also need to budget? Click here for the affordable Galaxy Hydro Series.

Pros

  • Very reasonably priced
  • With additional dimming setting
  • Low power consumption

Cons

  • No manual spectrum control
  • There could be other better choices only at higher price

Kind K5 XL1000

The Kind K5 LED Grow light is for the big players. Those who grow over 11 ounces in a single crop will find themselves well serviced by a single K5.

The power draw compared to yield is absolutely stunning with this light. Our basement is closer to a forest than a garden after using the K5 for a few months.

The K5 is programmable to utilize the entire spectrum or just a percentage of each part of the spectrum you would like to use. From seed to harvest you won't need much else, ever. It's pretty much the atomic bomb of LED grow lights.

The Benefits of Using LED Grow Lights

LED lights are the most efficient lights available on the market. Efficiency in this case is how much power is converted to light as opposed to something else, like heat. Those red-hot incandescent bulbs, besides not emitting the proper wavelengths of light, are the most inefficient form of lighting out there, most electricity cost is wasted on radiant heat.

LED lights use less true wattage for the same amount of growth compared to every other source of light, so you're saving bundles in electricity. LED lights tend to cost more off the bat, but they last several harvests, with most LED grow lights lasting about 50,000 hours before needing replacement bulbs.

LED grow lights are best if you want to buy grow lights and seldom ever have to do any sort of upkeep on the light itself, giving you more time to focus on the plants & soil than your light source.

The generally accepted rule of thumb is that for every watt of true power used by an LED light you will on average yield 0.5g per plant. It's worth noting that this rule of thumb goes outdated all the time as LED lights become more energy efficient over time, among other factors.

True power is the actual amount of wattage used by the light, and is typically different from the wattage advertised most prominently, which is usually the equivalent wattage. Meaning that if 100W of true power is going to your plant, your yield will be somewhere in the realm of 50g. This is under the assumption the plant is otherwise healthy and that the correct LED grow lights have been chosen and that they are installed properly, more ideal grows can get up to 1 to 1.5 grams per watt used!

Are all LEDs good for growing? The answer is a hard and fast no. General purpose LEDs are sold purely for illumination purposes and don't give off the wavelengths of light that plants need to thrive. The chart pictured illustrates what wavelengths are best absorbed and used by plants.

You'll notice nearly all green light is reflected and not absorbed, this is why most plants appear green. Light from the blue and red areas of the light spectrum are best used by plants to create usable energy.

This is why there is a sea of pictures of LED grow setups that look like a photo developing room or a serial killer's lair. Red and blue light is the plant equivalent of steak, veggies, and potatoes. Those pictures of exclusively red and blue light are fairly old, however. Newer LED grow lights emit a much wider wavelength of light, providing more useful energy per watt of electricity and bushier plants. LED lights are now almost exactly as good as other forms of light in the department of making your plants large, hearty, and healthy. LEDs that are suited for growing usually have the word horticultural somewhere on their packaging. Horticultural is the fancy word for plant cultivation.

Plants use photosynthesis to produce their energy. High energy photons (light energy) from the sun allow plants to turn carbon dioxide and water into glucose (sugar) for energy and water. The marijuana plant is no different. However, if you choose to grow indoors you're going to have to figure out how you're going to give plants the light they need to flourish, and grow lights are the answer.

Common Mistakes Made With LED Lights

and how to fix them...

Light Placement

How far away the lights are from the plant has a huge effect on how well they work. Putting them too far away means they won't deliver adequate light to your plants and all that will be accomplished is a higher hydro bill and some sad looking plants. Put them too close, and you risk discoloration of your plants by way of light burn.

Light burn is easily diagnosed by yellowing or browning where the light hits the plant the most, and the leaves won't fall off easily like they do when yellowed by a nitrogen deficiency. Also, leaves suffering from light burn tend to curl upwards towards the light. If your plants are getting too much light they won't grow to their full potential and even risk floundering entirely.

Depending on the size and strength of your lights, the best distance is in the range of 12-18 inches away from the top of the plant. Lower wattage lights fit in the closer end of that range and higher wattage (more powerful) lights go towards the farther end. Be sure to check the manufacturer's recommendations. If there aren't any, you are going to have to look at how powerful your lights are and make an inference based on that. Light burn occurs slowly and over time, so ensure your plants have the proper nitrogen to rule out yellowing due to nitrogen deficiency and if you notice your plants are gradually yellowing where the light hits them, raise your lights an inch until the problem is no longer getting worse.

Forgetting To Adjust Your Lights As Time Goes On

The rule of having your lights 12-18 inches away from the plant means that you should not neglect to adjust the distance of the lights periodically as the cannabis plant grows. It's best to have your lights rigged up with this in mind from the get go, figure out some way you'll easily be able to adjust the height of the lights as the grow goes on.

Insufficient Lighting

On the other side of the coin is not getting enough lights from your LEDs to your plants. Using the 100W per 50g rule (or 200W per 100g, the ratio used isn't massively important) figure out how many lights you'll need per estimated yield per plant. The science doesn't have to be exact to the decimal point, and there's another way to calculate how much light you'll need as well: 32 watts of actual power per square foot of growing space.

Not Using The Right LEDs

Using LED lights not intended for growing will save you money on the LEDs themselves, but the plants aren't going to do very well. Full spectrum LED lights are the most ideal variety, followed by either blue or red LED lights. Anything else is not worth the time or money.

Having The Lights On At The Wrong Time

How much light you should deliver to your plants is dependent on what stage of growing you're in. During the vegetative state that precedes the flowering stage, cannabis plants require 18-24 hours of light per day. During the flowering stage only 12 hours of light should be delivered.

How To Choose The Best LED Grow Lights

Overall Build Quality

Look for grow lights that look the part of proper grow equipment. The light should look sturdy and well constructed. You may be tempted to save $50 and get something of poorer overall quality, but that $50 saved on lights can result in a lower yield of cannabis worth much more than $50 altogether.

Low Heat Output

LEDs that produce too much heat are firstly inefficient, wasting you money in electricity costs. LEDs that produce too much heat (as in really much heat at all) can increase the temperature in your grow room to a temperature outside the optimal range for your plant, as well as cause light burn. Make sure your grow lights produce as minimal heat as possible. LED grow lights are solely for light production, all other aspects should be controlled via other means.

Light Spectrum

Full spectrum lights provide all of the wavelengths of light necessary for your plant. Full spectrum lights include UV light and infrared as opposed to just the red and blue light offered by partial spectrum lights, UV and infrared are vital to proper plant development. Skimping on lights here will result in a decrease in stickiness, smellyness, aesthetic appeal, and actual quality of the cannabis plant. Full spectrum lights also mean you won't have to buy any supplemental lighting during parts of the grow phase where plants favor one kind of light over another.

Chip Strength

The chip in your LED lights converts electricity to light. A chip of improper strength won't produce the proper wavelengths. A 1W chip is the absolute minimum required, with most opting for about chips at a strength of about 3W.

There you have it.

Those are my top 5 LED grow lights, and that's hopefully everything you'll need to know about LED grow lights and then some. If you think I've missed one of the best LED grow lights, or have any questions at all, be sure to comment the name down below. I've been known to make mistakes, and there are obviously way too many LED solid grow lights for me to list all of them. Besides, these things tend to impart some memory fuzziness due to their nature.

I'd love to hear from you in the comments section, and I will be sure to respond to each and every one of you.

How to Get Rid of The Smell of Weed

How To Hide The Smell of Weed:
Complete List of Tips

Written by: Taylor Walker | Updated: January 15th, 2019

If there's one downside of marijuana that every stoner has experienced, getting caught because of its recognizable smell.

However by taking then necessary precautions you can repel the smell of weed, and prevent being noticed by others.

Since "getting rid of the weed smell" is a pretty broad topic, you might be here for several different reasons.

Whether you're trying to transport your stash without stinking up you're car, or get away with smoking weed virtually anywhere, we're going to be covering it all.

To save time, you can use the table of contents for faster navigation. This guide is aimed to be the one stop shop to hiding/smell proofing your stash.

Let's get right into it, shall we?

How to Hide the Smell of Your Weed

Smell Proof Storage

The first thing you should consider when trying to mask the smell of your stash, is to consider how your storing your weed. Traditional Ziploc bags don't do a great job at concealing the smell of the weed inside.

A great way to conceal the smell of your pot is to use a smell proof container or bag.

Option #1: Smell Proof Bags

Smell proof bags are something I first started using when I was in high school. Many of my friends had gotten caught with weed in their lockers due to the Ziploc bags they stored their weed inside, so I picked up some smell proof bags.

I'd recommend buying the Deadbolt brand because some the other kind I tried ("Smelly proof" bags to be specific) we're not durable at all.

The zip part would always break. However with Deadbolt bags, they literally last forever.

Option #2: Smell Proof Containers

I've purchased plenty of smell proof containers over the years. Storing weed in bags isn't ideal if you like your nugs to stay intact.

The Herb Guard is a smell proof container that is supposed to keep your herbs fresh for months by protecting them from UV light.

I decided to give it a go since I was sick and tired of getting shake in the bottom of every sack of weed I was purchasing. When you smoke as much as I do, it really adds up.

I purchased the 1oz Herb Guard from Amazon for less than $25 bucks and so far I'm really impressed. It does a fantastic job at hiding the smell of weed. My girlfriend even mentioned that my apartment doesn't smell like weed as much as it used to.

So I know it's working well.

It's also great for transporting weed too whenever I buy a new sack. It prevents the smell of weed in my car, which is always a pain in the butt to get rid of.

Tips For Smoking Weed Inside

Tip #1: Use a Sploof

If you've never heard of a sploof before, let me quickly break it down.

A sploof is a device that you can make yourself, or purchase for under $20 that you exhale your toke through. When you exhale your hit of weed through a sploof, the smell and smoke get stuck inside of it. It's a great way to smoke weed inside your home without your room mates knowing.

You can make your own sploof pretty easily if you own dryer sheets, elastic bands or tape, and a toilet paper roll. All of these items can be purchased at your local grocery store for under $5.

I've actually created an in-depth guide that explains how to create several different types of sploofs, you can read it here.

Tip #2: Or a Sploofy

I recently upgraded from making my own sploof's to purchasing the Sploofy

It's essentially a professionally made sploof that is made of plastic. It filters the smell of weed much better than a traditional sploof, since it uses a carbon filter.

Since homemade sploofs don't completely mask the smell of weed, I'd highly recommend the Sploofy. Since it does a really good job, and leaves virtually no smell at all.

Especially if you live somewhere that you're absolutely not allowed to smoke at, but you need to since you're a pot head like myself ?

Getting Rid of The Weed Smell

Once you've smoked in your car or house you're left with a completely different problem. The smell of burnt weed.

The smell will stick to wherever you happen to be smoking, not to mention it will also be noticeable on your breath and your hands (especially if you're smoking a joint, which are notoriously bad for stinking up your breathe and hands).

Whether you smoke inside your house or your car, you're left with the same problem. How are you going to get rid of the smell of burnt weed?

In Your Home (or Car)

If you've just smoked up inside your house or your car (hopefully you used a sploof), but lets say you didn't. What can you do?

The first thing you should do is open the windows. This might sound obvious, but you should do it anyways if you haven't already.

Next you should use an air freshener like Febreeze if you have some laying around (again, super obvious). I personally started buying a product called Agent 420 that is a spray designed specifically for weed (might sound obvious based on it's name).

This is what the bottle looks like, to the right.

It works much better at covering up the smell of weed in a room than Febreeze or any other air freshener I've tried. Although to be fair, I've never spent more than $20 on air freshener.

The Agent 420 will run you just under $20 on Amazon depending on whether or not the price goes up or down, which you can check here.

This product saved my ass big time when my landlord came over a few months back.

On Your Breathe

Masking the smell of marijuana on your breathe is pretty easy to do. It's really as simple as brushing your teeth, using mouthwash, and ideally chewing gum afterwards.

If after all of that, you can still smell weed on your breathe, please send me an email because I would like to speak with your dealer and pick up an ounce of whatever it is you're smoking.

In all seriousness though, after all that I highly doubt there will be weed on your breathe.

On Your Clothes

This is going to sound super basic, and I can't believe I'm even writing this, but the best way to get the smell of weed off your clothes is to wash them... I bet I just blew you away with that tip. Your welcome.

On Your Hands

Again, another basic tip. What I do to get the smell of a joint off my hands is to use hand sanitizer, then wash my hands afterwards. Then repeat the process until the smell of weed is off my hands.

Conclusion

Well there you have it, that's basically everything I know about getting rid of the smell of weed. Hopefully you we're able to learn something from this article to hide the smell of your weed.

Please leave a comment down below if you have any tips to add, or if you have absolutely anything to say. We'd love to hear from you!

The Pros and Cons of Vaping – Benefits of Using a Vaporizer

The Benefits of Vaping: Pros & Cons

As vaping soars in popularity, many of us who use traditional methods of smoking weed (or tobacco) are making the move to it. If you are considering making the switch and get into the vaping mania then this article will provide you with the needed info for the pros and cons of the switch.

This article is also meant for those who are interested in smoking weed or cigarettes but never did so due to the numerous negative effects of doing it in the traditional combustion based manner.

My goal is to paint a full picture of all the positive and negatives sides of vaping; all put forward in a clear and direct manner to save you the trouble of spending countless hours on researching the topic online.

I've been using vaporizers for over 7 years with both marijuana & tobacco products, and I've spent more on my habit than any man should.

Beside's owning over 50 vaporizers, and using multiple on a daily basis for years. I've also spent lots of my time over the years researching the health benefits of vaping, since I've had asthma ever since I was a child.

I'm going to be going over what I believe to be the 5 most important benefits and downsides to using a vaporizer. Here are 10 things I would of liked to know before I started using a vaporizer.

Benefits of Using a Vaporizer

1. Long Term Savings

You might not believe that buying a vaporizer will save you money, but hear me out. Due to the efficiency of using a vaporizer, you will actually get more out of your stash allowing you to conserve over a longer period of time. When you use a vaporizer, it will take less weed or concentrates to get you stoned than if you were to use a bong, pipe or joint.

This allows your wax or dry herb to last longer so you would be getting the same amount of pleasure from less weed. Instead of your product burning away as long as your joint is lit, it is only used when you inhale. In the long run you will save a lot of money.

If you purchase your vaporizer from one of the top online vaporizer retailers, you'll be able to get a good deal as well. As long as you don't go buy a super expensive vaporizer, you're going to save money in the long run if you use weed often.

2. Less Odor & More Discreet

The odor released by a vaporizer is gone in minutes and the smell does not accumulate in your house and stick to your hair or clothes. Not only that, but the smell that vaporizers produce doesn't smell like the traditional burnt marijuana smell everyones used to smelling. In my opinion, it smells more like cooked popcorn than weed (not exactly but thats the closest smell I can think of as I sit here puffing on my Volcano).

When compared to smoking, vaporizers release a greatly reduced scent which allows you to eliminate odors and be discreet when meeting people that you do not want to be aware of your habit like family members or work colleagues for example.

Not to mention, if you use a portable vaporizer, you'll be able to use your vaporizer virtually anywhere.

3. Better Flavor

There is no doubt about it, whether your vaping dry herbs, concentrates, e-liquids or anything for that matter, the taste is much better when compared to smoking.

A lot of the flavors in your dry herbs are burned away when using the traditional combustion method of smoking. On the other hand, vapes offer flavor production of your botanical material. Because they do not burn your herbs or concentrates they simply heat them to the point where they release vapor which contains THC and other active cannabinoids.

One thing worth mentioning is that if you're trying to get the best flavor production possible from your vaporizer, it's worth investing in a desktop vaporizer since they are known to produce better flavor production.

4. Health Benefits

Unlike when you use a vaporizer, no matter what your smoking, your going to cause damage to your lungs. In addition, it does so while wasting important active cannabinoids in your stash. The health benefits of vaping is by far the most important reason why so many people are converting to use them to consume dry herbs and e-liquids.

By vaporizing instead of smoking, you can drastically reduce your risk of respiratory illnesses.

5. You Get Higher

There is no arguing that when you use a vaporizer, it is a much more intense high than when you smoke. This is because when you smoke marijuana, lots of the THC (the compound in marijuana that gets you high) is destroyed.

On the other hand, when you vaporize marijuana, more of the active THC is able to be ingested by the user. I assume most vaporizer users will agree with this (leave a comment down below if you agree or disagree). I’ve been using marijuana for over 10 years and I can definitely say that I never get higher than when I use my vaporizer.

It's one of my tips that I mention in this article about how to get higher on marijuana.

Potential Negative Side Effects of Vaping

1. Dizziness

This is only relevant if you vaporize tobacco. Nicotine is a stimulant that interacts with your nervous system and has its benefits such as stress relief. However, ingesting large quantities may lead to dizziness. If you begin to feel dizzy, stop using the vaporizer and breathe for a bit, your new best friend is not going anywhere. Know your body and adjust your usage to limit the chance of feeling dizzy.

When it comes to vaporizing weed, this does not apply. Although you might be a bit higher than normal, so that might make you dizzy.

2. Maintenance is Required

Unlike traditional smoking methods where you simply use your cigarettes or joints then throw them away without much hassle or preparation. You need to take care of your vaporizer and make sure that it is cleaned and maintained in order to make it last and ensure the best quality possible out of every usage. It might be a hassle at first but will become second nature with time.

A great benefit of using a vaporizer is that you will say goodbye to lighters for good. You will never feel frustrated when your lighter runs of juice again or angry when you discover that it was stolen or that you forgot it at home. However, the downside is that you can only use your vaporizer to smoke your dry herb or e-liquid when it is charged or plugged in. I usually keep my phone and vaporizer chargers next to each other so that I’m always reminded to plug it in whenever I charge my phone.

3. Dry Mouth

Just like when you smoke marijuana, using your vape can induce the sensation of a dry mouth. Thankfully, the fix is easy and good for you in general, just drink water and keep yourself well hydrated and you will completely eliminate the vaping related dry mouth sensation.

4. Judgement From Others

We’ve all heard people trash talk vaporizers, and people who vape. Many people may give you judging looks, or your friends might throw chirps at you if they see you using a vaporizer.

Regardless, rep your vaporizer with pride. After all, it’s much more enjoyable than smoking. At the end of the day, if you're being made fun of by a smoker, you might just end up living longer than him.

So in theory you can get your revenge and laugh at your bullies in the future when they get lung cancer... KIDDING. Of course.

5. Initial Investment

The last downside is pretty obvious, but it's worth mentioning. Before you decide to start using a vaporizer to consume e-liquids, dry herbs or concentrates, he or she might be turned off by the price of vaporizers. Purchasing a vape is costly at first in comparison to traditional smoking methods, however as I've mentioned earlier, it will end up saving you money in the long run. Especially if you purchase a high quality vaporizer, that doesn't break the bank. Which you can do by reading some of our vaporizer reviews,  or our buyers guides.

Well, thats basically all I got for you. Please be sure to let me know in the comments section down below if you enjoyed this article, or if you didn't, either way I'd love to hear from you ?

The Ultimate Bong Cleaning Guide

The Ultimate Bong Cleaning Guide

The most annoying part about owning a water bong is having to clean it every few weeks or so. Otherwise your tokes will start to taste harsh and you won't be able to enjoy your bong hits as much as when your bong was clean. Luckily, cleaning a bong can be simple and not time consuming at all if you use the proper cleaning techniques.

In this article we're going to be covering how you can make a bong like the one pictured to the left as clean as the bong pictured on the right, in under 5 minutes.

There are a couple different methods that can be used to clean a bong, depending on what type of bong you own.

It also depends on which materials you have laying around your house, and how invested you are in making your bong look as good as new.

I'm going to be covering methods that can be used to clean glass, acrylic, ceramic or silicon bongs.

I'll also tell you how to keep your bong clean so that you won't have to clean it nearly as often.

Let's find which method works best for you.

The Best Way to Clean a Bong

Step #1 - Choose a Cleaning Liquid

If you own a bong made out of glass, acrylic, ceramic, silicone or metal, listen up.

So if you're just looking to remove the nasty black resin on your bong, and don't really care about making your bong as clean as it was the day you bought it, just purchase some isopropyl alcohol, be sure to buy the good kind (higher percent alcohol the better).

If you're willing to spend an extra dollar or two, I'd recommend buying some Orange Chronic. It's hands down the best bong cleaner I've ever used, and will have your glass (or acrylic) looking clean as new. It also removes the nasty odor/taste that is lingering in your bong (something that isopropyl will not do). It will leave your bong smelling fresh like orange.

Bonus Tips - Throw in some table salt or epsom salt, whichever you have laying around at home. This will help break up all of the resin inside your bong. You can also buy a toothbrush to reach some tricky spots.

Watch the following video to see the difference between isopropyl alcohol vs Orange Chronic.

As you can see, Orange Chronic does a better job than just plain old isopropyl alcohol.

I personally switched to using Orange Chronic from isopropyl because I find it dissolves the gunk a lot quicker, and prevents me from having to shake the ever living crap out of my bong to remove tricky bits of resin.

Step #2 - Shake It

The resin stuck to the inside of your bong won't always come out just by adding cleaner to the inside of it. Especially if you're using isopropyl alcohol as I just said.

To remove the stubborn resin, simply plug both ends of your bong either with your hand and one of your fingers (your hand to plug the mouthpiece, and your thumb to block the down-stem hole). You can also use paper towel and elastic bands if you don't want to get your hands dirty (or just put a paper towel barrier between your hand and your finger between the mouthpiece and down-stem).

Step #3 - Cleaning the Bowl Piece & Downstem

The easiest way to clean the gunk inside the bowl is to hold the bowl upside down as pictured to the left, and hold the lighter directly under it for a few seconds.

Hold the bowl at the very top to avoid being burned, and only heat it for a few seconds.

Next, take a piece of tissue or paper towel and scrunch it up inside of the bowl using a twisting motion to wipe the inside.

This will remove most of the resin from the inside of the bowl. However you will likely still need to scrape some of the resin that is deeper inside the bowl.

I like to use a dab tool to scrape out the final bits of residue inside of the bowl, however you can get away with using a toothpick, bobby pin, bent paper clip, or anything you can think of that can fit inside your bowl piece.

You'll also need it to clean out the bottom half of your bowl piece.

This part is strangely satisfying for me. I always try and get the majority of the resin to come out in one glob, and oddly enough it's pretty amusing.

Try it out for yourself.

The last remaining step is simple, just take your bowl piece, put it into a ziplock bag, sub-merge it in some Orange Chronic or isopropyl (and a little bit of salt ideally), and shake it for about 30 seconds.

Then simply do the exact same thing with your down-stem, and they will both be looking clean as new.

Step #4 - Let It Dry

Quite honestly, this part isn't all that necessary. Since the inside of your bong is going to be wet anyways, all you really need to do is wipe the mouthpiece and the bowl piece dry with a paper towel or a napkin.

Once you wipe it dry, you're ready to start enjoying your clean as new bong.

Step #5 - Make It Dirty Again

Now that your bong is clean again, the only thing left to do is to use it and make it dirty again.

Enjoy the clean tasting hits while they last before it is time to repeat the process over again.

All in a stoners days work.

Alternative Methods

How to Clean an Acrylic Bong

If you own an acrylic bong you likely don't want to use isopropyl alcohol. You'll want to use a bong cleaner like Orange Chronic. Anything else will break down the inner lining of your bong over time.

How to Clean a Bong Without Alcohol (or Cleaner)

If you're not wanting to spend money on alcohol, or any cleaner, it's possible to use hot water to clean out a bong. However just a disclaimer, this will not clean your bong as much as you'd probably like.

The best way to use hot water to clean your bong is to heat water in a kettle, and then pour it into the mouthpiece of your bong. Let it sit for a few minutes, and shake it if you can without burning yourself.

You can also add epsom salt or table salt with a little bit of hot water, and shake it around to break up the tricky resin.

How to Use Hot Water & Lemon to Clean a Bong

A slightly better method than the one previously mentioned is to use hot water and lemon juice.

Simply pour lemon juice into your bong and shake it up for a minute or two.

Then pour in the hot water, and shake it thoroughly again.

Let it sit for a few minutes (which will let the acidity from the lemon juice to break up the resin).

After that your bong should be quite a bit cleaner than when you started. Keep in mind, this won't have your bong looking or smelling as clean as a good bong cleaner will make it.

Ways to Keep Your Bong Clean

If you'd like to know how you can prevent your bong from getting dirty so quickly, there are a couple tips that you can try.

Lemon Juice - One trick that I've used in the past to keep my glass clean after many sessions, is to add lemon juice to the bong water. Not only does it keep the glass clean (by dissolving the resin so that it doesn't stick to the glass) but it will also give your bong tokes a lemony taste and make your bong smell better as well.

You can experiment with how much lemon juice to add. I use around 2 parts water to 1 part lemon juice ratio.

By adding lemon juice to your bong water, you'll notice a considerable difference in how much resin with build up inside your bong.

Vegetable Oil - Something else that I've tried is adding vegetable oil inside my bong water. It sounds gross, and if I'm being honest the first time I saw someone do this, I definitely questioned it.

However after hitting my friends bong which he claimed hadn't been cleaned in over a week, I decided to give it a try. It doesn't make much difference to the overall taste of the bong like lemon juice does, but it will keep your bong from getting gunked up.

Anyways, those are all the cleaning methods I personally know of. If you clean you bong a different way, please let me know in the comment section below!

Best Portable Vaporizers of 2018

In this guide I will be covering what I believe to be the best portable vaporizers that money can buy. The truth is that there are plenty of portable vaporizers available that fit virtually any budget, the trouble is choosing one that's going to be worth your money. That's where I can help.

My name is Taylor, and I've been using vaporizers for over 7 years. I've tested more vaporizers than most people you'll encounter and more vaporizers than most people will even see, and I've even got the receipts to prove it. In all honesty my wife would kill me (or more likely divorce me) if she knew how much I've spent over the years. Luckily, I know just the vape for her, too.

I don't want to self qualify myself, but I personally feel pretty confident to make recommendations on which portables you should and shouldn't buy, seeing as I've tested 90% of the popular models on the market. I've also tried to confirm my suspicions about any particular vaporizer with as many friends as possible to help bring some objectivity into the mix.

Unlike what most people think, you don't need to break the bank on quality vaporizer. There are plenty of solid portables for under $100, and in this article my goal is to show you just what to expect from vaporizers at all points of the price spectrum.

Out of all the portable vaporizers I've used, the next 5 are the best I've ever personally used, the top of the class, if you will. Without wasting any more time, lets get into my top 5 vaporizer picks for this year.

Pulsar APX - The Best Vaporizer Under $75

The Pulsar APX is one of my personal favorites, and a vaporizer I use almost every day no matter where I might find myself.

It's a solid little dry herb vaporizer that retails for under $75, which in my opinion is insane since just a few years ago I wouldn't have expected to grab something so jam-packed with quality vaporizing power for under $200.

It delivers solid vapor quality, and has a pretty good battery life, especially considering its size. I can usually get somewhere around a dozen chambers to a single charge. This translates to about an hour and fourty five minutes of straight vape time.

Don't let the low price fool you, the Pulsar APX compares to vaporizers that cost well over $100.

The Pulsar APX is hands down the best value herbal vaporizer on the market, and one that I highly recommend if you're looking for a dry herb vaporizer that won't break the bank.

Size wise, the APX is slightly larger than two standard BIC lighters stacked on top of each other, making it small enough to lose track of in your pocket but big enough to find again. Included is a concentrate/oil adapter so if you can get stoned off of it, there's a good chance you can make it work with the APX.

A vaporizer of this size and price doesn't give you a lot of say in how you're able to control it. There's only enough room for a single button and the digital LED display, so everything is controlled at literally the push of a button. The three temperature settings are more than enough for this to be a great about-town vaporizer that is easy to replace should anything tragic happen.

The heating chamber is fashioned from ceramic and takes a meager 40 seconds from to go from cold to blazing.

Pros

  • Cheapest portable on the market
  • Good vapor quality
  • Solid battery life for its size
  • 5 different temperature settings
  • Handy battery indicator on the front

Cons

  • It's got a pretty small herb chamber
  • Mouthpiece can get warm after extended use

Pulsar APX Wax - The Best Wax Vaporizer

It's definitely worth mentioning that the APX also comes in a wax version. The APX Wax retails for the same price as the normal version.

The only difference is it's a vaporizer thats designed to be used with concentrates and wax, as opposed to dry herbs. The APX Wax is a triple quartz coil vaporizer that delivers massive dab rips. I've personally fallen in love with the triple quartz coil, since I love taking dabs and this baby rips something special. Quartz tends to bring out the best flavor profiles in concentrates and the triple coil design ensures there's no wastage if you dab just a bit too generously.

The APX Wax is the only vaporizer I personally use with concentrates. Since its basically the same thing as taking a dab off a quartz nail in my opinion, except I'm able to rip this thing while walking down the street instead of in the confines of my home.

It delivers incredible flavor and vapor quality for a portable concentrate vaporizer and for me the APX is the only portable vaporizer that truly vaporizes concentrates instead of just poorly mimicking what a dab rig can do. I really can't understate how great the triple quartz coil is because you can fit a fair amount of shatter in there in a single scrumptious rip.

The APX Wax is a little smaller than the original version, and its the perfect vaporizer to vaporize wax if thats what you're looking to do. Pulsar was kind enough to include a concentrate jar and a metal dabbing tool, so I even recommend the APX for those who might want to move up to a full size dab rig one day just to see if concentrates are the right choice for them. Concentrates are notoriously expensive and this is a fantastic way to dip your toes without having to remortgage your home.

Battery life is rather impressive, mainly because of how quick it is to charge. Depending on how you use it the APX Wax will last about an hour or two of consistent usage, but it only takes an hour and some change to get it back to fully charged.

If you're looking for a portable wax vaporizer that will deliver massive rips, then this is the vaporizer I'd recommend. It's an excellent vaporizer for conserving concentrates, and a must have if you like using your concentrates to their full power. Especially since it comes with such a low price tag at under $70, it's an all around package cheaper than some dab rig accessories. Pros

  • Delivers massive hits of vapor
  • Great flavor and vapor quality
  • The triple quartz coil is amazing
  • Pretty solid battery life and recharge time
  • Extremely portable

Cons

  • If you don't like massive rips, steer clear
  • 5 temperatures are pre-set and cannot be adjusted
  • thumbs-down
6 month warranty is fairly short compared to other manufacturers

Magic Flight Launch Box -  Most Portable Vaporizer

The Magic Flight Launch Box (also known as the MFLB) is one of the most popular portable vaporizers and has been around for many years. The launch box is ubiquitous among stoners because of it's ease of use and affordability.

It's one of my personal favorites, and is the smallest, most simplistic vaporizer I've ever used. The majorly steampunk vibes it gives off probably factors into my admiration for it as well.

However, don't let the simple design discourage you as this is one of the better performing portables I own.

The MFLB is my go-to vaporizer if I need something discreet and portable to take with me on the go. I can conceal the entirety of the device in my closed palm.

It comes with two batteries which makes it even more convenient. The MFLB is the only vaporizer I reach for whenever I go to a concert or festival. Since it's so small, its easy to sneak it just about anywhere.

Using the MFLB is quite simple. Place one of the rechargeable batteries into the port on the side of the device after loosely packing a trench full of weed and push the battery towards the connection within the device. You have to keep the battery touching the connection to keep the device on, which can be slightly uncomfortable if you want back to back trenches. This system of heating means there's only about a 10 second wait time to start getting vapor, though.

The trench is designed in such a way that all of the herbs are vaporized evenly, I seldom if ever stir my weed in my Launch Box and find any green left over.

Don't let it's simplicity fool you into thinking it's not a top performing portable, because let me tell you, you'll get some excellent flavor production from the MFLB. The heating element does a great job at heating your herbs to just the perfect temperature without ever risking combustion of your herbs.

If you're looking for a portable vaporizer that is both simple to use, and doesn't cost very much money, the Magic Flight Launch Box might be a good option for you.

Pros

  • Very simple to use
  • Good battery life, and it comes with two batteries
  • Its the most portable vaporizer on the market
  • Delivers excellent vapor quality
  • The manufacturer will replace broken units free of charge

Cons

  • No temperature control
  • Might be too simplistic for some users
  • Works best with finely ground herb
  • No way of telling how much power is left in batteries without a tester

Firefly 2 - The Highest Quality Portable Vaporizer

The Firefly 2 has quickly became my one of my favorite portable vaporizers since I started using it. Its about the size of a particularly large USB key and could probably pass for one if you were asked in passing.

I first picked it up when it was first released in 2017, and I've barely put it down for an entire day since. It's one of my daily drivers, and my go-to when I want something high quality and portable that doesn't require too much focus to use properly.

The vapor quality and flavor production is incomparable to any other portable that I've personally ever tried.

The unique herb chamber provides for an amazing experience unlike any other portable since you're able to pack huge bowls and the chamber will vaporizer the entire bowl evenly as it is a convection style vaporizer with excellent airflow.

The Firefly 2 delivers impressive vapor quality, as well as an all-glass vapor path keeping the vapor cool and full of flavor. A full battery gets you somewhere in the realm of 50 draws, which in my opinion makes it the ultimate portable vaporizer. Did I mention it comes with a spare battery?

The original Firefly was bogged down with bad vapor production, the vapor it did produce was harsh and of poor quality, and the battery lasted about as long as the battery of that RC car I got at Christmas time over a decade ago which is to say the battery was not very good. The Firefly was a great proof of concept but they should have refined it to where the Firefly 2 is now before releasing it to the public.

All of those glaring issues were thankfully solved by the time the Firefly 2 came to the shelves and they were also able to add two much needed features: a concentrate mode and the ability to completely customize the temperature settings with the Bluetooth app.

If you have the cash to spend, there's really no other vaporizer in the same price range that compares to the value you get with the Firefly 2. There are very few vaporizers that live up to such high price tags, but this vaporizer is certainly one of them.

I have no regrets buying the Firefly 2. Be sure to read our full review to see why this vaporizer was highest quality portable vaporizer that I tried this year.

Pros

  • Incredible vapor quality
  • Very long battery life
  • Large sized herb chamber, and excellent heat distribution
  • Amazing flavor production

Cons

  • Could be about $30 cheaper

Atmos Vicod 5G - The Best Value Vaporizer

The Atmos Vicod 5G is a portable vaporizer that well out-performs its price tag. It retails for under $150 but it stacks up against vaporizers I've paid almost double for.

It's LED temperature/battery display is easy to use and makes vaporizing with the Vicod super convenient. Temperature can be customized to the exact degree with the full range being 350°to 430°F.

The vapor production on the Vicod is very impressive as well, as it delivers really nice hits of vapor that leave me on my arse.

The Atmos Vicod 5G is the second generation of the original Vicod. Atmos made some pretty noticeable improvements to the overall design, and gave it a brand new look.

When I compare my original Vicod to the newly re-vamped 5G model, theres no comparison. The Atmos Vicod 5G is a beast. It's hands down one of the top portables on the market. If you need a portable vaporizer under $150, this is the vaporizer you should purchase. It's everything you need in a portable, and more.

Once the device has adequately heated up the only thing stopping you from a lungful of powerful vapor is those first few puffs to get things going. Usually the entirety of the bowl is completely vaporized without me having to stir the cannabis around midway through the session, keeping my fingers odor free and without any sort of gunk.

A good comparison I make when buying any vaporizer or smoking piece for that matter is if I spent that same amount of money on weed, would I be more satisfied with the product or the weed? At $110 that's about a half ounce of the dankest chronic I can put my hands on. The ease of use, portability, and standard of vapor production from the Vicod 5G is definitely more satisfying than having an extra half ounce of weed.

If you're looking to invest in a portable vaporizer that is going to last a long time, and will be worth the money you spend on it, the Atmos Vicod 5G is worth your consideration.

Pros

  • Very reasonably priced
  • Excellent vapor/flavor production
  • Works with herbs or concentrates
  • Very portable and discreet

Cons

  • Display screen could be bigger
  • Mouthpiece could be of higher quality although replacements are available

Why Trust Me?

All of the vaporizers mentioned above have been purchased at retail price, and have been tested by me personally. Who am I?

I am the sole contributor on this website and I test all of the vaporizers I review personally, and have tested over 50 different vaporizers to date. Sometimes I invite my friends over and have them all try out my devices so I can get a good composite of how these vaporizers stack up to the varying tastes and preferences of different vape users.

Unlike other marijuana vaporizer review websites, who don't actually purchase the products they review, I actually own every single vaporizer listed on my website. My garage is packed full of vaporizers and miscellaneous vape parts, and my wife absolutely hates it. But hey, you get the closet and 75% of the bed at night, I get the garage, fair is fair. I've spent many thousands of dollars over the years testing vaporizers so that you don't have to waste money in low quality products.

My #1 goal is to help my readers avoid buying low quality vaporizers. This is why we only recommend vaporizers that we've tested and enjoyed using. Cheap Chinese knockoffs or any vape made from dangerous materials will never be featured on this website, that is my guarantee to you.

There you have it.

Those are the top 5 portable vaporizers in my opinion from my experience testing vaporizers over the past 7 years.

If you think I've missed one of the best portable vaporizers, be sure to comment the name of the vaporizer down below. I've been known to make mistakes, and there are obviously way too many solid portables for me to list all of them. Besides, these things tend to impart some memory fuzziness due to their nature.

Let me know which portables I've missed by leaving a comment and letting me know down below. I'd love to hear from you in the comments section, and I will be sure to respond to each and every one of you.
