What's the next best thing to a diamond?
A RUBI.
The Kandypens Rubi vaporizer is sleek, slim, smart, and sexy. Aesthetically, I would say that the vaporizer is trying to make the cannabis version of the Pax JUUL, one of the most popular new nicotine vapes. Just for cannabis oil as opposed to nicotine juice.
This device offers pod-based fun as opposed to packing a chamber.
Let's get into my full review!
When I first bought it, the Kandypens Rubi looked like an extraterrestrial super device.
I am very impressed with the pod based design as it allows for quite a bit of oil to be held inside, I tend to bring this one around when I know I have a lot of non-shatter smoking friends coming over that think they can underestimate shatter and get away with it.
In terms of portability and usability, the Kandypens Vaporizer is my best friend. I literally take this little guy with me everywhere I go.
As if discreetness, mobility, and appearance were not enough, this device is also gets me blazed like a California forest fire. It is compatible with wax e-juice as well as oil, making it a top contender in my shelf since I don't need to stop and remember if my device is compatible with my concentrate of choice.
The Kandypens Rubi uses ceramic coil technology to achieve vaporization.
The use of ceramic in any vaporizing device gives it many advantages. This is a point I always try to make.
An increasing number of companies have started innovating and exploring with ceramic chambers and ceramic coils. Ceramic is very useful because it is both heat tolerant, and abrasion resistant. Basically they use this material for dental prosthesis, and kitchen knives. It affects the flavor as well as the air draw. My ceramic coils are easy to maintain, to boot.
If it looks familiar, that's probably because it looks almost identical to the JUUL.
The design is definitely one of the most discreet of all wax vaporizers, the Rubi reigns over all.
At only four inches high, it's actually extremely difficult to get someone to think you're getting stoned and not waving a really weird kazoo or voice recorder in their face. I've used the vaporizer in enclosed spaces before without anyone noticing.
The scent does depend on the type of e-liquid you are smoking, however if you add a little bit of wax in there you are good to go. The smell could be barely distinguishable depending on the situation. The device is very easy to stealth vape, or vape without producing any smoke. Even if someone did smell it, you just looked like someone deep in thought if you grasp it tightly in your palm. The added carb can help for more controlled, stealthy draws. Yeah, this thing has variable air flow.
Pod based smoking is a new concept for wax vaporizers, typically pod based vapes were only suitable for nicotine e-juice as the voltages offered were not suitable for wax and the consistency of concentrates typically being too thick to work properly. Kandypens redesigned the pod to fit perfectly with concentrates and it is refillable to boot, meaning there's no need to chuck out your pod after a single use. It's probably a prudent step to buy a few once you've figured out you like the vape, though. They are refillable but definitely not unlimited in their use.
With a 2800 mAh battery that has output that is just over 8W, the battery truly astonished me. For a device this size it's very rare to have batteries that go over 1500 mAh. With the USB cable you can charge the device quickly and without worry. The Kandypens Rubi’s battery comes with a life-time warranty, in case anything goes wrong, you only need to pay to get your old battery shipped back and you'll get yourself a brand new one.
Honestly, the deal was sealed for me there, because I was skeptical the 28000 mAh battery would just conk out after a month or so. Companies seldom offer lifetime warranties on items that break frequently, it would bankrupt them.
The battery takes from around 30 to 50 draws per charge. The duration of a full charge is usually 1 to 2 hours depending on the frequency of the draws. It only takes about 80 minutes to charge, so there isn't much of a waiting game here. If your tolerance is so high a huge shatter hit can't last you 80 minutes, maybe vape pens aren't really for you. With my usage I cannot keep the device with me everywhere without having the USB cable with me and an external battery. The universal USB cable can be used anywhere, and it offers flexibility to its users. Overall, for its size, the nature of it's battery life is understandable.
If you have a long day ahead of you just make sure you keep the USB charger on hand. Also watch for the LED light, if it turns red you need to charge the device as soon as you can.
Tip: If you are a heavy smoker take advantage of the increased availability of mobile power banks. If you have one you'll be able to charge on the go and not be confined to electrical outlets. Some even come in a 24 case of beer, they are everywhere these days and have gotten pretty affordable.
Some devices require a very, very specfic technique to draw the most possible vapor from them. The RUBI doesn't have this issue, you'll find yourself drawing a lot of clouds with minimal effort. You can produce a downright surreal amount of vapor from a small puff. Kandypen’s JUUL is known for being the device that more resembles a cigarette in terms of draw and flow, and the RUBI is kind of the joint equivalent. The ceramic coil is definitely doing it's duty when it comes to the volume of vapor produced from a single draw.
I can see cigarette smokers enjoying the experience offered by the RUBI, but it should be considered that the loose vapor might seem like a sudden shift for smokers. But really, we're not here for whether or not smokers like it, we're here to get absolutely zonked. The fact that it's a great device to puff on and contemplate life is just an added bonus.
For us shatter groupies, this device can do wonders if you combine oil or wax with any e-liquid. The RUBI pod gives you the flexibility to experiment and have a finely tuned wax and e liquid melange should you choose to..
Tip: For people who wish to quit smoking, this device can do wonders. Nicotine e-juice can be added in conjunction to the wax which eliminated my number one problem with nic vapes when I used one: there's just no definite "end" like there is with a cigarette. By adding a bit of concentrates to the e-juice, you can stop once you are satisfied with how high you are and keep your focus off of the nicotine. It might take some fine-tuning, but the option is there.I bought my JUUL from Vapornation, since they offered the lowest price I could find, plus I get an extra 10% off with the coupon code "IMARIJUANIT".
Did I mention it came with free shipping?
I personally really enjoyed my time with the Kandypens RUBI. When I noticed it was pod based, I was skeptical as I always wondered how the JUUL would fare with concentrates, but after using it I found to be very effective. Obviously some changes had to be made to the pod so that oil can come in contact with the coil more easily, that is why it actually works instead of JUUL pods, which will NOT be of any use with cannabis products.
It is equipped with everything that a piece like this needs. It is extremely affordable, effective, and pretty hard to break. What's not to love about that? The Kandypens RUBI has paved the way for more manufacturers to try out pod based delivery systems for concentrates and I'm interested in seeing if anyone can do better.
You can take this thing with you anywhere, it's more or less just a double-long USB stick. If you’re in the need of a quick hit and go, that's perfect. Some of my friends love experimenting with different flavor e-liquids and types of wax to make insanely customized personal blends. Overall, I see this vaporizer making waves for years to come. From the niche of creative consumers who buy it to experiment with e-liquid to consumers who were just drawn to the size & functionality I sincerely doubt many of them will be disappointed. I sure as hell wasn't.
